The comfort and convenience of having chemo@home
We understand that being given a diagnosis of cancer, or a long term chronic illness is challenging. This is made more challenging by having to go into the hospital regularly for treatment, which can increase the burden not only for you, but also for your family. You may find that the hospital feels impersonal, loud and busy, and travel and parking may add to the stress and cost.
You may also be concerned about attending hospital because of COVID-19. Many hospitals now require COVID testing before admission and some limit the number of visitors or support people who may accompany you to appointments or treatment.
However, this doesn’t have to be the case. You can now receive your chemotherapy or immunotherapy treatment from the comfort of your home.
chemo@home employs a team of health professionals to administer your treatment at home. The nursing care is exceptional and the whole system is overseen by specialist pharmacists who ensure absolute safety of all treatments given in the home.
If you are living with a chronic illness (such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease) you can also be treated at home by our chemo@home nurses.
All this means that whether you are receiving chemotherapy or immunotherapy you no longer need to find transport to the hospital, battle traffic, or even pay parking fees for the duration of their treatment. If you have children, they are welcome to be with you during treatment, relieving you of needing to make childcare arrangements, and helping your children understand your treatment.
The chemo@home team allows you to find a place (either home or work) and a schedule that suits you and your family. By receiving your treatment at home, you can be surrounded by your familiar and comfortable belongings, and friends and/or family can be present throughout your treatment. Even your pets can sit quietly with you!
Each nurse and pharmacist is qualified and highly experienced in in-home visits and the considerations that come with treating you outside of the hospital. There is also a contact line that is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week that you or your loved ones can call to get prompt support.
The cost of chemo@home is covered by most major health funds. There are also other funding options if you do not have health insurance so be sure to reach out if you have questions.
Our chemo@home nurses and pharmacists have extensive experience across many conditions, and so your needs and preferences can be catered to when you choose to have treatment at home. Chemotherapy, immunotherapy and other supportive care medications can be administered intravenously (injection into a vein) or subcutaneously (injected under the skin).
Our pharmacy partner ensures your medications are supplied and managed easily by our qualified team.
