On behalf of View Health, Director and Leader of Governance, Julie Adams was proud to present the largest study ever reported on iron infusions administered at home, in Sydney, at the Hospital in the Home Conference.
We examined the safety and patient experience of 1948 doses of intravenous iron administration at home and found that such administration is generally safe. However, reactions (including life-threatening reactions) can occur. Patient satisfaction with home-based infusions is very high.
The study emphasises the need for robust protocols, trained, skilled healthcare providers, and clear patient education to mitigate the risks of cannulation difficulties and adverse reactions during home-based intravenous iron infusions.
