Bupa shared the wonderful story below about our patient Graham on World Cancer Day. It is great to see our companies working together to close the gap in patient care.

Without any other symptoms, it was abnormalities in Graham Brash’s annual blood test that led to his multiple myeloma diagnosis.  When discussing treatment options, his haematologist suggested Bupa’s Chemotherapy Choices Program, which allows people with cancer to do their chemotherapy at home.  Graham started the service in August 2021.

“It’s an amazing service. At the start, I thought it would be less hassle than going to the hospital, but it’s much more than that.  It’s remarkable that I can be at home and treated by fully trained nurses that are so caring and compassionate.”

Graham’s twice weekly treatments are conducted in his home, with the nurses often going above and beyond, calling to follow up on weekends and public holidays to see how he is going. They were even able to continue to provide treatments during a recent hospital visit, with Graham’s haematologist suggesting he continue with the service he is familiar with.

“Bupa is great to cover this service. I am able to sit in a comfortable lounge chair at home, take a few deep breaths, and then I’m ready for chemo.”

Bupa partnered with service provider – chemo@home – in August 2018, to provide eligible customers who have cancer, or certain other medical conditions, with greater choice over their treatment options at no extra cost through Bupa’s Chemotherapy Choices service. The service, as well as after-hours nursing support and advice, is delivered by specially trained nurses and pharmacists in the customer’s home.
