A New Chapter in Alzheimer’s Treatment

Our Co-Director, Julie Adams, recently had the opportunity to speak with Ron Wilson on 2SM about a major development in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease: the Australian approval of donanemab, a new treatment that offers real hope for patients and families.

Donanemab is a monoclonal antibody that targets amyloid plaques in the brain, aiming to slow the progression of early symptomatic Alzheimer’s. It’s a significant step forward, particularly for those in the mild cognitive impairment or early dementia stages.

In the conversation, she discussed:
🔹 How donanemab works and what makes it different
🔹 What this means for patients, carers, and the broader health system
🔹 The hope this brings to families navigating the challenges of Alzheimer’s

This treatment won’t be a cure, but it’s a meaningful advance in a space that has seen too few. It also highlights the urgent need for early detection, equitable access, and continued investment in dementia research.
