At View Health – chemo@Home, we are committed to delivering safe and effective treatments for patients with cancer and chronic illnesses in the comfort of their own homes. With the current intravenous (IV) fluid supply disruptions, healthcare professionals face unique challenges in managing patient care. In line with guidance from the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, we have implemented several conservation strategies to maintain continuity of service and the highest standards of care.
All our procedures focus on the safe and efficient use of IV fluids, including options for utilising alternate fluid volumes and alternative solutions. For clarity, whilst we manage this disruption, the volumes and solutions we use may be different from those outlined in our protocols and templated into our treatment charts. All changes we make to patient care take into consideration the availability of supply and current stock holdings and are based on best practice, literature evidence and clinical experience.
Further information on the shortage of intravenous fluids can be found on the TGA website (About the shortage of intravenous (IV) fluids | Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA)). For more detailed information on safety considerations and conservation strategies during IV fluid supply disruptions, please refer to the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care Fact Sheet.
Healthcare professionals are encouraged to discuss any concerns, or specific patient needs with our team to ensure tailored and safe care plans.
